Where were you?

800px-Wtc-2004-memorial

Lest We Forget

Where were you on September 11, 2001? What were you doing? What thoughts went through your mind as you heard the news?

I am asked this several times, and I remember it as clearly as the day that I got my first car. Back then I was working at a Pep Boys in Delaware. I was a relatively new father and new husband, just trying to make a living for myself and my family. I remember going by the store on that day.  It was my day off, however I had to get some work done on the car. My wife and my daughter were with me, and had planned walking to the restaurant a few blocks down from the store to have some brunch after we dropped the car off.

Little did I know what was going on in the world not to far from where I stood at that very moment. My service manager had a look of distraught and surprise on his face as I walked through the doors leading into the service desk. And there, on the TV bolted to wall in the waiting area, they were telling of the attacks on the local news. Immediately my thoughts went to my 2 year old daughter. What is this world that I have brought her into? Will she forever have to fear terrorism and attacks. As my service manager and I began to pray my family and he all gathered close together, needing the comfort of a hug from this cruel act that some madmen had performed.

As you go throughout your day, remember not only the victims and their families, but also the servicemen and servicewomen who have died defending our country so that this never happens again. And those who are still serving, pray that their lives may be safe. I have kept this short, as it still brings tears to my eyes as remember the events of that day. May God bless our Country, and those that have fallen.

Are you ready for some football?!?!?!

  pro

Yes, it’s finally here. As the Summer season slowly wanes into cooler temperatures, shorter days, and less people at the beaches, in comes my favorite time of the year. Second only to the Christmas season, the beginning of football season has to be, by far, the most exciting of all for me.

It brings back childhood memories of  my Dad and his friends, sitting around, drinking beer. As a child, I always wondered what those old people were doing, sitting around drinking out of those funny looking cans, watching some people on TV running around and throwing such an odd shaped playball. I wondered not only what was in those cans, but why it always seemed that after the old people had had a few of those cans to drink, they got even more into the people running around on TV, and acted even more funny.  What was this obsession they had with the TV every Sunday? I mean, I could understand an obsession with my new bicycle with the cards that hit the spokes to made noise as you traveled down the road. I could understand the obsession with my new Daisy BB gun that you went around the neighborhood, shooting tin cans and strutting around like John Wayne. But an obsession with TV and a bunch of guys running around like crazy? Man old people are strange.

Now, just a few, maybe quite a few :) years later, as an adult, I now understand the obsession. After learning all the terms as I aged, and fully understanding  this wonderful concept of football, Man I love this game!! It has to be, by far, the greatest sport in the world. Granted, I like NASCAR Racing, Basketball, and Hockey, but nothing pumps me up more than the Pre-Season heading into the Football season. NASCAR ,Hockey, and Basketball serve as substitutes for my Football addiction, after the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl are complete and I go into Football Withdrawal.

Other than football, about the only thing else he watches is Baseball. He could care less about NASCAR, hates Basketball, and never really understood Hockey. For me, I never could get into Baseball. It just seems like such a boring game to me. It is good to have on during a lazy Sunday afternoon. It helps me take a nap. :) But, I am sure, once I get a little older, I am sure I will be an old man sitting around with a funny looking can in my hand fully into watching those guys hit a small white ball with a funny looking stick.

 fins

This season is going to be great I think, as I am Miami Dolphins fan. If my team can show me just a little bit more of what I saw last season, I believe we can go All…….The……..Way!!  Coming back after a horrid 1-15,  2007 season, we rallied to an 11-5 2008 season, winning our first AFC East title since 2000.  Let’s go Fins, 2009 is our year!!!

In closing, make sure you watch the game tonight if you are a fan. And if your not a fan, watch anyway, you may catch the fever. :)

My Labor Day/Birthday Weekend

40

Well, well. Another year has come and gone and I don’t feel a year older. In fact, I get better looking the more the clock ticks. Ha! Not full of myself, just self-confident. :) And no, my name isn’t Benjamin Button.

This year was a little extraordinary. A major milestone was marked in my life this year, as it was the BIG 4-0. Yes, 40 years on this earth, and not too many scratches.

It’s always been great to have a B’day date such as mine, September 4th. Usually Labor day falls right around that time, so I know I will always have a long weekend somewhere close to my birthday. Such was the case this past weekend. And what a weekend it was!

I started out festivities by fishing on Friday, my birthday, night. Ended up fishing all night and catching some of the biggest Catfish I have ever seen. Being from the South, if you don’t get to go fishing on your birthday, well its just not a birthday. :)

The highlight of my weekend, though, was the………………

Angel Oak

 Picture0037

The Angel Oak stands in a wooded area along Bohicket Road of John's Island outside Charleston, South Carolina. It is such a huge and beautiful tree. Many estimates age it to be 1,500+ years old. Just imagine, a little acorn sprouted around the year 509 A.D. and has been growing big and strong ever since. You never will get the full magnitude and overwhelming awe of this tree until you bask in it’s shade and natural wonder for yourself.

Picture0035 Picture0036

The Angel Oak is thought to be one of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi River. Acorns from the Angel Oak have grown to produce authentic direct-offspring trees.. Live oaks generally grow out and not up, but the Angel Oak has had plenty of time to do both, standing 65 ft high and with a canopy providing 17,000 square feet of shade. Its limbs, the size of tree trunks themselves, are so large and heavy that some of them rest on the ground (some even drop underground for a few feet and then come back up), a feature common to only the very oldest live oaks. It has survived countless hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and human interference, so there's a good chance it will still be there waiting for you.

Picture0041

It was just a marvelous sight, and to amaze at just one of God’s many glorious creations. Sure, I had turned 40, but I was just an infant compared to this aged wonder of the nature.

Sunday my family and I wrapped it up with Church and Sunday dinner. And a cake for my Sister and I. My sister’s Birthday is on September 1st, so we celebrate together. Kathy was born on September 1st and came home on my 8th birthday. Funny thing I always say, it was the worst birthday present I ever got. She’d kill me if she saw I posted that. :)

Monday, I just relaxed around the house and grilled out. Worn down from the weekend, I was ready to get back to work. :) I had a very wonderful Labor Day/Birthday weekend, as I hope you did the same. BTW, is it Friday yet? I’m ready for another weekend.

Take care and if you get a chance to visit the Angel Oak, do so. With pending development going on all around the area, we don’t know how much longer she will be with us. Have a good Wednesday.

9-9-09 An Omen, or Just Wednesday?

999

Ooh, Spooky! With the number 9 being the number of Death and endings, does the numbers aligning on this particular day signal the end of the world? A possible catastrophic event such a huge swine flu outbreak, a worldwide earthquake, the earth being sucked into a black hole? If it does end to today, I am ready, and it’s been one heck of a ride!

angel2

But doombringers aside, I don’t see any relevance in the numbers, and feel it is just another Wednesday. I mean we got past 9am, so blah! Oh, but wait, 9pm is still to come……….

Anyway, no one can predict the end of the world. Let’s look at another set of numbers that aligned, oh, say, a little over three years ago, and nothing happened on that date. Yes, I am talking about the infamous set of three 6’s. (I’m not going to post the full number here, as I do have an ominous feeling about that) :O  On June 6th of 2006, there were no mass floods, no major anomalies in the earths rotation, no significant events that the harbingers of total and massive earth destruction bring.  That day, just like today will, came and went with a butterfly flutter into the somber night.

So, on the lighter side, some people are putting this day to good use…….and living life!! :) Several people, in Las Vegas, and around the world are getting married on this day. With many hotels, resorts, and casinos offering special pricing.

Beatles

Remastered  versions of the Beatles catalogue will be released, and of course,  The Beatles™: Rock Band™ for XBOX 360, Playstation 3, and Wii is released. So get your John, Paul, George, and Ringo Beatlemania on.

On the electronics side, there have been rumors of the Leica M9, and The Diablo 3 game being released today, but none confirmed as of note.

In closing, go off to work and school and treat today as any other day. And Carpe Diem –Seize the day! Have a great Wednesday.

The Case of the Swarming Wasps

Harry Potter2

And Harry walked into the dark cavern, felt the chill in the air, and wind upon his face. And there….at the mouth of the cavern, hung an enormous wasp nest. Wings flapping, sending hot air into the cool cavern. Wasps twice as big as Harry himself, there ever searching eyes inhabiting anyone from ever coming into there hive.

Smiles. No, its not a nightmare friends, and I don’t believe wasps could grow that size anyway. Well, maybe given a bit of radioactive goop, but beside the point.  And Harry could magic them away with a special wand anyway right?

Today I came home to a deck full of angry wasps. And, don’t get me wrong, I feel kind of bad about this, I think I had a little bit to do with it. I strolled up the steps of my deck, glad to be home. I saw a wasp walking on the boards of the deck, and just out of instinct I guess, I stepped on it and killed it. And then, like gunpowder from an overused keg, they all came out at once. Guess they were mad because I killed there brother? sister? Wow, I ran so fast down the steps, I think I left my flip flops behind. :)

It made me wonder, why did God have to invent wasps. And Bees, and Hornets, and Yellow Jackets, etc. etc. Well of course so Major League (and High School) teams would have a name of course.

GeorgiaTechYellowJackets

Smiles. But seriously, I think it is the natural order of things. A way to feel pain. Or maybe to teach us to learn the natural order of things. I have no idea to this point, all I know is the baking soda and vinegar is working, and I think the compress has removed the poison the wasp left behind.

I want to delve into a new topic tonite, and I do hope that the few can understand. Well not necessarily a few. (Still can’t spell that necessarily right, for those that have been following, I give up at this point) :) Here it is………….big bang boom………

Twitter

Twitter is a good tool for keeping friends and family updated, but…… you have to watch who follows you. I am kind of new to the Twitter scene, and I am already starting to see the goings on that happens. My biggest gripe…….getting followers promoting everything from a good way to make money with Twitter, all the way to, and I quote….”Want to see me naked”. Gheesh, noooooo. Just quit following me if we’re going to be introduced like that. I mean, why pay for porn when you have it right on Twitter. And I am just saying, I would never pay for porn, and would even look at it.

And if you have to promote something, why do you have to do it through Twitter? Try Google Ads, or Yahoo Business, or even ebay. Yeah, I would like to know how to make $49 an hour, but don’t use Twitter to promote it. Take out ad space, and maybe some will buy in to your “money making scheme”, but some will not. Keep Twitter clean. Just one man’s quest for a clean twitter. Mark me if I am wrong.  Same goes for the MySpace and Facebook annihilators.

Ah well, thus ends my blog tonite, well, not as much, I have another post saved, one I thought on last nite, and will post within 10 minutes of finishing this one. I just had to rant tonite, and if I offended some, forgive, but just telling it like it is, Pow, right to the moon. Smiles. G’night all, and God bless.

Anyways, I am up now

This blog thing is pretty kewl. I think everyone should have one. It would make the world a better place. :) Instead of war, you just tell your enemy… “Hey, check out my blog….”. They would in turn find some comments made on your blog to be offensive, and that would start a war. So I guess we would be back to where we started. Oh well. It’ll all wash out in the end. Once we get to Heaven there won’t be any wars.

I am now through with VBS and looking at taking a vacation for the rest of my summer. Thinking about going up to Myrtle Beach. If anyone has any suggestions, post them here. I always end up going to Myrtle Beach for my summer vacation. It is getting kind of old, though. I need to find a new vacation spot. I know with the economy the way it is, many people are nixing the Aruba flight and vacation, settling for a vacation close to home. I would start a poll on where everyone is going for vacation this summer, but I am not sure how to do that yet. Any helpful comments appreciated. :)

Ok, closing for now. Everyone have a blessed day, and may the sun shine at your feet to brighten your path, and the wind blow at your back to lighten your step. :)

I’ve got a feeling…….that tonight’s gonna be a good night……

:)  Happy weekend everybody (in the voice of that doctor from the Simpsons) Well now, this being my 3rd post I thought I would shake things up a bit. More Pictures, More Content, And More Funny. So lets start off with a joke…………….

Joan_Jett   Ooops, not that one. Its just Joan Jett. What happened to the blackhearts? If anyone is a fan of the 80’s I am sure you will recognize. She is still going strong, gotta love her. She will probably be 92 and still singing “I hate myself for loving you”. :)

This one…….Homer2

That is how I feel with my PC sometimes. :)

  And this one……. iphone-funny

              and this …….. funny-cat

That is how I feel this morning. Too rough of a Friday night. I think I will go back into my watermelon and sleep a while. :) Anyways, I will update the blog later, more tips and tricks on the BlackBerry, more Twitter integration, man thats a big word, and more stuff on random celebrities. (Did I spell that right?) Probably not. Anyways. BBIAF (Be Back In A Few) :)

All I can say is WOW. :)

Thankx for the great response!!  I guess I will keep doing this then. Thanks to my new followers and hope to reach even more. Sorry about the delay, but I am learning  just as you.  Ok, topic number one on the menu today…..My upgrade to the BlackBerry without paying a cent. But, it is not all good.  Topic number 2, My new found band friends. And last but not least, how to keep a clown from getting bullwhipped. Ah, nevermind, :) that will be later, lets talk about VBS. If you are not sure what that means, then you need to read this of course.

Soooo…….My new BlackBerry. It is quite a bit different than my T Mobile Dash. I am used to Windows Mobile, 6 to be exact. Although I have used some different 6.5 ROM’s and loved the functionality. However, I got 3, yes 3 defective Dash’s from T Mobile. It is not T Mobile’s fault, and I blame noone, but the first two went fine for a while, then no service, and then the last one, went fine for a couple of weeks, and then the power button stopped working. I wanted to get out of the Dash altogether, so they shipped me out a brand new BlackBerry 8220. Yes, the Pearl Flip.

I am getting used to this monkey creation of a phone, just love what I can do with this thing. I honestly have to say, it is better than the Dash, and any phone I have ever had. Lot of CrackBerry followers will love me for that. :) Btw, when I say Monkey Creation, I can’t believe that someone human could create this, it is a mahvelous creation. I guess T Mob has it going on with the CrackBerries.

With the newfound freedom I found with the BB, I have looked at doing more with my phone. But I think it ended up in information overload, so I settled down with a glass of iced tea in my hand and watched Lowcountry Live. It is a local station here. WCIV TV 4 here in the lowcountry.  Here is where i found my topic #2. Smiles.

Saw a band on Lowcountry Live this morning, and I had to add them to my Twitter and MySpace. Guys (and Girls), you need to check them out. They will be at the Windjammer tonight, show starts at 8pm, they will be on at 9pm sharp. Check out Crowfield. Look them up on MySpace. I would give a link. … .. . well, heck with it, maybe blogger will accept this…….:)  http://www.myspace.com/crowfieldmusic

Smiles. And for the last entry in my Blog tonite, VBS. I know that you all know what that is. V=Vacation B=Bible S=School. I was a teacher this week. I didn’t feel comfortable at all. I am going to be a teacher when I still need someone to teach me? After my fears and weeks of worrying about it, I think I did a good job. I think I could be a good teacher. (That’s what I originally went to school for) :) But I was worried about the kids trying to be smart and mouth off to me. lol. But I knew the kids at my church wouldn’t do that, they have been raised well. Parents, you really need to read this. I think I had the best class out of them all. They said no sir and yes sir. I thought I would have  to whip them in shape. (Just a figure of speech), but they did very good. The important thing is the upbringing. I think family and teaching your young’uns (Smiles)  Is most important.

Ok, I am going to close this blog for now, but if anyone has any questions, again, mail me or just post a reply. Take care and I’m out. Peaceeee.

Virgin post, just exited the womb and entered the world of blogging.

New here, gotta love it. I am new to this new found world of Blogging. But stay tuned, once I get it all figured out, I am sure it will be oh most awesome. I entered into this just to give a few thoughts on the world, and, of course, my state of the world that I live in. This is going to be a great ride my friends, and trust me, it's going to offend a few, enable a few, and strengthen a few. However it goes, I can only say, stick with me, I think I know what I am talking about. :) <---there that, you are going to see quite a few of those. And of course a couple of these . . . :( and some of these :P of course. And I am tired of the of course, so let's move on.

First, about me. I was born and raised in the wonderful :( state of South Carolina. I was supposed to be terminated. But, my Mother, God bless her, carried me to term. And I will talk more on this in future blogs. Abortion, it's wrong, getting rid of a life, I just don't see how someone can stand as God in these matters. To all mothers out there, whether in wedlock or not, just give the child a chance. Please!!!!

Ok, that is all I have to say on the matter for now. I welcome all feedback on all the blogs I post, and I will respond in turn. My email is scdreamin3@gmail.com. As this blog goes on, I am sure I will receive quite a few. (i before e except after c right?) Smiles, and you are going to see a lot of that too. I am self conscious of my spelling. Just a tick I guess. So if you can understand me, as long as I am not saying baloboolagooga when I meant to say the bologna is good, bear with me.

I am kind of a technical freak. A nerd perhaps. I love everything that has to do with technology......computers, cell phones, televisions, automated back scratchers....oh wait, nix that. Too much to delve into there. I will be talking about my new Blackberry, and how I ditched the Dash (not a choice of mine, mind you, but T-Mob thought it best if I had a device I could abuse less I guess). My computer with the new W7, and of course, my new coffee pot. Well, home appliances are always the talk at the water cooler. Gheez, c'mon now. :)

So enter, my friends, into the new kind of blog. Kind of like a Jerry Seinfeld kind of blog. A bunch of talk about nothing. And a whole bunch of nothing about something. It will be a different world, but I am good with different. It's how the world should be. Differences is what makes the world go around. If only everyone could be like that, this world would be a part of the Coke generation. Smiles. I am probably going to be sued for all of the commercial references on here, gotta love it. But maybe, just maybe, they will see I am out to change the world, and they will show some love.

God bless all, and I will be back with an update in a couple of hours. Or less than that, depends on how my first post goes. :) Loves ya all.
